What Can You Do With the New Testament Virtual Manuscript Room?

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to introduce the New Testament Virtual Manuscript Room (NTVMR) on a panel at the Religion at the Greenhouse in Bologna Italy. The event provided a welcome forum for discussing the many ways the NTVMR supports the study not only of the Greek New Testament manuscript tradition, but also of a range of other manuscript traditions and languages.

The panel was hosted by RESILIENCE, a European interdisciplinary research infrastructure working at the intersection of religious studies and the digital humanities. It is dedicated to improving access to the resources, tools, expertise, and training necessary for innovative research on religion.

RESILIENCE has also put together a helpful article featuring the NTVMR.

One question I often receive is whether there is a basic video introduction to the NTVMR. To my knowledge, the only introductory video was made by Troy Griffitts about 12 years ago, and much has changed since then.

Over the years, I’ve written a number of detailed explanations about how to use the platform including here, here and here. I thought, however, that a video format would be especially helpful for offering a general orientation to the range of possibilities the NTVMR provides for researching manuscripts and textual traditions.

In the coming months, this blog will host additional videos that go into more depth on topics such as indexing and transcribing, as well as different ways to search for manuscripts and images using the platform.

I hope this video proves useful and would welcome any feedback or questions.
